Very wrong. There are a lot of Bengali font developers among the 2,500+ members of the VOLT user community developing OpenType fonts for complex scripts. Microsoft's implementation of Unicode Indic encoding and shaping is well documented at http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otfntdev/indicot/default.htm. Although this document does not include Bengali-specific information yet, this has not prevented font developers from beginning development and testing using pre-release updates to Uniscribe. Of particular note, Mike Meir in London has been working with Tim Holloway, the designer of the original Linotype Bengali typeface in the 1970s, to produce a new and Linotype-approved version of this classic and brilliant design (the most popular and most pirated Bengali typeface).
