Personally, I find it counter-productive to add a hodge-podge of dingbats and miscellaneous symbols to Unicode, or any coded character set. They had practical uses when user interfaces and display systems could not handle icons and arbitrary images, but those times are long over. Witness the demise of the DOS codepages with block graphics when graphical UIs became available.
In my personal opinion, I find that the inclusion of such symbols dimishes the credibility of Unicode as a standard and of the UTC as following reasonable principles and guidelines. markus
