UP TACK WITH TWO UNDERBAR [sic] is a common circuit symbol, not just in Hong Kong but everywhere electronic schematic diagrams can be found. GROUND SYMBOL would be a more appropriate name, without the false association with the mathematical UP TACK symbols. But do these two circuit symbols (the other is RECTANGLE WITH CENTRE HORIZONTAL LINE) really belong in a character encoding such as Unicode? Should Unicode start encoding symbols for resistors, capacitors, transistors, transformers, etc.? These last two proposed characters aren't nearly as bad as the precomposed Latin letters, but such questions ought to be asked in Tokyo. -Doug Ewell Fullerton, California
