I think it would also give the false feeling that a new 4.01 file exist when in
fact it's the same as 4.00.

that are part of a Unicode version, with their respective version.



I was about to suggest that what was needed was an HTML page with ordinary HTML links to the relevant data files for each version. But I quickly found that exactly that already exists: http://www.unicode.org/standard/versions/enumeratedversions.html. What more does anyone need?
