I just downloaded <Doulos SIL 4.0 Font Documentation.pdf> from
http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/render_download.php?site_id=nrsi&format=file&media_id=DoulosSIL4.0.10.zip

On page 11, it is written:

> Provides alternates for Cyrillic letters with the central horizontal
> stroke slightly curved, as is appropriate for Mongolian.

I don't know about Mongolian, but the middle stroke shape for "round
e" as used in Russian is as meaningful as that of Latin "Q"'s tail, as
used in every language / orthography / typographical tradition I know
of. (My ex-wife, a proffessional computer programmer native to two
Cyrillic spelt languages -- Russian and Chuvash --, was hard pressed
to believe that "round e" can have these two shapes at all!)
