I got an enormous number of answers and you had the solution to my problem.

I learned how to get to the Windows Character Map utility (START-PROGRAMS-ACCESSORIES-SYSTEM TOOLS- CHARACTERS MAP).

I was reminded that ALT+UNICODE (decimal) inputs characters into Windows applications, and discovered UNICODE (hex) +ALT-X inputs into Word.

The characters I needed were in the Latin Extended-A block and are part of the Windows Arial UNICODE MS.

All I can plead is poor eye sight (humor).  Sorry to have troubled so many, but thanks for taking the time for your replies.

Aloha!
