The main thing is that it does not allow attributes other than color to be changed separately on a dependent mark. It's all the other things that could change as soon as you use a separate <span> that could be problematic.


Incidentally I see that under "Tools, Options, Complex Scripts" MS Word now has a check-box option to enable "Different Color for Diacritics"
