Why not just type:

(I suppose this fails too as now the ellipsis can break at line breaks).
(In html code it works of course: 
<pre>
&nbsp;.&nbsp;&nbsp;.
</pre>
Note that the pre tags are just to prevent the nbsp s from getting converted to 
spaces.)
