If the teacher is explaining actual math to his students, then the superscript is the least of his worries. Math typesetting is two dimensional, and is much more complex than regular formated text (not even regular plan text)that it needs its own typesetting engines. There are various plain text markup languages to markup math, if one really wants to represent complex mathematical notation in plain text. Regards, Khaled
