In addition to various fixes, these items are coming soon to a Unicon
distribution near you. As always, we welcome your contributions to
the language and ideas for the group discussion.

* trim(s,c,i:-1) extended to support trimming from the front (i=1)
        or both ends (i=0) as alternatives to trimming the back
        (the default i=-1). This is in CVS now.

* local and static declarations will now support initializers, as in

procedure main()
   local x := 0, L := ["hello, world"]
   ...
end

This is implemented, and will be in CVS soon. Doing initializers for globals
will be harder; don't expect them any time soon; I would welcome help from a
volunteer or a student contributor if they are to be done.

* 3D graphics facilities, based on OpenGL, are far enough along that I
  expect we will be able to make them useful to some of you-all this spring.
  This is work in progress by student researcher Naomi Martinez.
  We would welcome a partner to further develop these facilities.

* A book revision will include many corrections and a substantial update of
  the GUI chapter. I am contemplating an extra chapter on graphics, and
  additions to certain existing chapters. Book prepublication copies have
  improved in quality with a better size (7x8.5) and improved cover.
