The "dummy" RPM that goes and checks things out of CVS is a clever idea, but might be fatally flawed for two reasons: (1) anonymous CVS access to sourceforge has been problematic, and (2) the current CVS repository has all the latest features...but no whole-system-testing or "semi-guarantee of operationality" that end users need when they use an RPM.
Right now I have people who tell me whenever the current CVS build is broken on various platforms. I can always use more of such feedback, but what we need more at the moment are "build-masters" who periodically build a set of binaries on their platform, run the test suite to verify that things pretty much work, and package the results for public consumption.
