Perhaps, my description of build-masters should also have included the role of liaison -- someone who produces binaries for a given OS platform may also be the best person to announce the binaries to that community, submit it for inclusion in distributions, etc. We have a good start on simplifying the configuration mechanism using autoconf, and could benefit from someone pushing that migration further. We have a lot of #ifdef's that need switching over to autoconf-standard symbol names, for example.
