Thanks Steve and Marcos.  It was rather obvious :-)
By "efficient" I meant that I didn't want to have a procedure call,
because I have a sizeable amount to write.

write(f1, f2, x)

will not work.  But that's the kind of thing I want to achieve. (And it has to 
be
efficient.)

every write(f1 | f2, x)

will do?
