I still remember as an undergraduate in the late 80's reading the first edition of The Icon Programming Language and having my entire view of programming flipped on its head. With that one book he ruined me for Fortran, Modula-2 and C - and I wish I had had the opportunity to meet him in person and express my gratitude :)
