Hi Ed,
When you get back to it on Wednesday, can you please add a check after the
open() to see if it is what has failed. If open() fails and a variable is
&null, and then you try to read from it, it will default to standard input
which will open a console if it needs to in order to accept user input. This
can be very disorienting when it is unexpected. It might or might not be the
trouble, and if it is, there might or might not be a follow-up needed where
we figure out why open() was failing on that particular filename path.
