Howdy friends,
Some of you may have noticed in passing that Shea Newton has been quietly
working on a set of Unicon benchmarks these past few months. We went ahead
and put up a preliminary version of the technical report (UTR #16) awhile
back, while recognizing that folks would be more interested in it when it
was more complete.
This note announces the first major revision of the benchmarks technical
report, which now includes very interesting results for the optimizing
compiler. The whole enterprise is ready now for you to help us with it. You
can help by running the benchmarks and reporting results (from
"run-benchmark" after a "make" in tests/bench), especially for new hardware
or software platforms on which we do not have information. You can help,
more interestingly, by improving the Unicon code of the benchmark solutions
to run faster. And, you can help by identifying major areas of the language
that are not yet benchmarked, and providing benchmark candidates for
possible inclusion in our suite.
The benchmarks website is http://unicon.org/bench and the technical report
is at http://unicon.org/utr/utr16.pdf. The benchmarks themselves are part
of the Unicon source distribution available via SVN checkout, and we expect
to add them to binary distributions when we get a chance. We look forward
to your feedback.
Cheers,
Clint and Shea
