No, there hasn't been any work beyond adding basic data structure
declarations based on the discussions you, Clint and I had a while back. I
still have the draft of the design document if you lost the online
reference to it. I have a lot of things on my plate and didn't get a chance
to work on UTF-8 support. Would love to get that going one day.
