71/72's can be rotated either way depending upon which way the pump is set, but the input shaft and output shaft are spinning the same direction. This means that if you had counter rotating props, one engine would have been reverse rotation. I believe the 5000A requires standard rotation engines only and can be used with either left or right hand props. I know that is the case with the similar ZF 63A. If you are planning on using some of your old parts, like starters or distributors, one of the engines will need new ones because the reverse rotation engine starter and distributor will be spinning the wrong way. Mounting the engine level is a really good thing for a number of reasons. The 5000 A is quite a bit shorter than the 71C and the engines will have to be moved back something like 8 inches. This may involve packaging issues and may change the balance and ride quality of the boat. The drive shaft may end up being the wrong length. The 5000A is about 50 pounds lighter than the 71C but that isn't enough to overcome the 8 inch movement of the engine. I made this change in my 27 Express Cruiser, going from a 71C to a HSW 630A. I rebuilt my engine, changing it from reverse rotation to standard rotation, but keeping the same prop. I moved the engine back about six inches and got a shaft a half inch longer. All in all a good thing for me, but there's a lot to consider and I didn't cover it all with these few words.
