I'm refittting a 1972 Salty Dog. The existing engine is a 454 / 330
hp. The two options I have are:

1) Rebuild the 454 to 496 w/ fuel injection etc w/ increased torque
in essence drop the engine back in.

2) Install reman BTA 210 Cummings Turbo with all the changes/ trans.
shaft prop etc.

I need to know from any 28 S/D owners what performance they achieve
with a 454 or 496 or 210 hp diesel.

GPH, Speed / rpms at best overall performance of the items as well as
WOT.

Intresting story: I stopped at yard in MD. and was talking to the
owner who asked what I did for a living.

I said epoxy flooring? His response was I have 200 gallons of left
over materials from his shop floor.

How Much! He said Do you like the boat. Yes I do! How much for the
boat! $2,950.00 , For the boatand the
epoxyt. SOLD!!!! I'll even buy a extra boat stand.

THe boat is in very good condition with the expected TLC This is my
second 28 Uniflite, the first was a sportfisherman. Hull is sound and
the cabin is clean, very clean. The engine runs but I'll do one or
the other above.
The weather has turned to the 20s and the boat is now in 84 PA. Thats
the name of the town so in water trial is out but for the price it
dosen't matter.
A good solid hull to refit.

Any response will be apperciated. Thanks FFB.
