I'm using hi performance oil additives and JOMAR hi-performance no-bypass
filters on my 410 Chrysler LA small block.  All Chrysler A, LA, B and RB
engines will take the same filter (440's are RB engines). You can get them from
a lot of places like Summit Racing or Jegs but I get them from the engine shop
that sold me the crank kit and camshaft for my engine, www.hughesengines.com.
This will definately protect your engine, but only if you pay close attention
to things, since it has NO BYPASS.  It has a 600 psi burst limit to deal with
the lack of a bypass.  I like fussing with my engine because I built it
myself.  If you're not that hands on, you should perhaps look at an industrial
type filter with a regular bypass system.  I would consider measuring the old
filter and looking for a large diesel engine filter that has the same gasket
and mounting threads, but talk to a good Chrysler guy like Dave Hughes before
you do that.  Whether you go with
a no bypass filter or not, your old flat tappet cam will thank you for using
oil additives to give back the lubricating qualities we all lost when the oils
changed a few years ago and they took the zinc out.  Dave Hughes is a great
resource for anyone running Chrysler engines in anything.  He has a good
article on his website about the oil issue.  I confirmed it on other well
respected hi performce gas websites, as well as on diesel engine websites, so
he knows what he's talking about.  Diesel guys should look at the oil
additive issue as well.  Most modern oils are not kind to older diesel engines
either.  They definitely kill flat tappet cams on gas engines.

Oil change time on the M440s. I currently have Napa Golds (1068) on
and they seem a little short given their job. This is what the parts
guy gave me last year. Anything better than Napa's? If not, should I
ask for the next larger/longer one. I fear the parts person is only
giving me a filter for an auto 440, despite telling him the
application.

Thanks
