I have a 1980 38' with 671's and just went through this. I obtained new
exhaust risers through Tim at Sea Cure Technology (his rapid response and
concern that the parts were made properly and arrived quickly to me here in
Alaska was wonderful!) I decided that since the old system had lasted for
almost 30 years I should stay with that exhaust design.

Subject: [UnifliteWorld] Subject. Exhaust risers.. 38 sf 6/71 TI s ( 325
SHP)

I have vertical cylindrical exhaust risers., comprising 2 (vertical) tubes,
one inside the other. Exhaust gases enter the inner tube and cooling
seawater enters the top outside tube, both exit through a 6" pipe to a
fiberglass expansion chamber. Both risers are currently OK but have
already had weld repairs , so logically their days are numbered.

A friend's boat with 3208TI V8 Cats has different risers. They are inverted
U's with exhaust gases fed in at the forward end and cooling water injected
at the apex of the U; water and gasses exit at the aft of the U.

It is likely my risers will need replacing within 6 months... and I would
really welcome information as to whether I should just replace the existing
risers ( quite expensive to make ) , or fit the inverted U's which seem much
simpler/cheaper... can anyone give me advice?
