In regards to your question, it is advisable to check the fuel
pressure at idle and at maximum no load rpm and the pressure should be
20 psi and 60 to 70 psi at the secondary. You might have a restriction
at the port tank and to verify the problem run the return line to tank
into a 5 gallon pail and run the engine at 1200 rpm and check the
return flow out of the cylinder head and it should be .9 of a gallon
in one minute of operation. Having done this many times, also check to
see if you have the right restriction fitting on the return side of
the fuel system and it should be an R80 restriction fitting as the
number is stamped on the brass fitting. In Detroit Diesel land they
like the fuel pressure to feed the injectors and I have not worried
about restriction but as you have the gauges, they are telling you
