Thanks Kerry,
I'm having some isuues with the cooling system on twin 318's. Both
engines were just overhauled and I've recently started the port side.
All of the manifolds, elbows and risers including the mounting kits
are brand new. I have a small bit of cooling water ending up in the
bottom of the elbow at the rear of the manifold each time I start up
then shut down. I suspect the "o" rings supplied with the mounting kit
are not thick enough, therefor not getting an adequate amount of
compression when torqued, resulting in water getting over the inner
ring (about two tablespoons) in each side. When I removed the old
exhaust system, I did not take note of which end of the muffler was
which, so I am also concerned about that. Both ends of the muffler
have six flukes for water and exhaust to travel through however, one
end has six in a row and the other end has two rows of three flukes
turned 90 degrees from the six in a row. Would I be experiencing "back
up" due to improper muffler installation? This unwanted water seems to
be fresh water (not antifreeze) with a high carbon content-very dark.
The boat is out of the water so the cooling water is being provided
via a garden hose to the raw water pump.
A friend of mine suggested that I just "through 'er in the water
she'll be fine". Well now I'm glad I did'nt heed his advice cause the
waves and rocks are much more forgiving in my shop!

Thanks again

Don
