i,
did not see the answer to your question on changing your Antifreeze. Here
s one suggestion to save you a few hundred dollars if they did not mention
t to you.
f you have engine block heaters, you have to make sure they are turned OFF.
t takes about 3 seconds for them to burn out with no coolant on the
lement$$$$.
he boat yard or where you bought your antifreeze should be able to take
our old antifreeze.

Thanks. I will give it a try. Where can you dispose of the old
ntifreeze? I may be able to at our local recycling station I guess.
'll look into it.
I also live in Seattle and winterizing is actually not that bad. You
ust have to protect from the occasional below freezing period with
ome space heaters. Last year we had a bunch of snow which was
nusual. I also use a dehumidifier and only heat when the temps reach
0 degrees or lower. Saves power.
I keep my boat in fresh water and travel through locks to travel in
he Puget Sound which is salt water. Nice thing about fresh is that
alt corrosion is at a minimum and zincs do not have to be changed as
ften.
Having boated both here and in SoCal you need to move up. Much more to
o. If you come to the NW some of us will be happy to show you
round.

 Kerry,
I don't know why the formating is going wrong, but here is another try.

I keep my boat informattingfornia delta where the water temperature
oesn't get
very cold. So, I don't have much of a winterizing routine. In fact,
it was my intention to eventually move to the Northwest along with my boat
nd
I am not happy about the idea of having to winterize things such as the
ater
 system.

 My annual list is:

 Oil/filters

 Coolant

 Zincs

 Trans oil

 Raw water impellers.

This year, knowing the impellers had not been changed I several years, and
ot
knowing what the previous owner, had done, finding the pumps in pretty bad
shape was not much of a surprise. I finally identified the ITT Jabsco
ump used on my engines (they just say Detroit Dieselspan> on the cover
late). I am
replacing one and rebuilding the other. The other old pump will be
rebuilt and carried as a spare. The problem is the pulley. My DD
parts supplier says DD wants $822 for a new pump, but it included the
pulley! Well, that pulley can't be worth $590. That's about the
difference between the one I have ordered elsewhere. I have been thinking
about how I can make a pulley and now I have found what appears to be a DD
art
number on the old one. I am going to see if the pulley is available and
if so, how much! It would be nice to have a complete pump/pulley assembly
available as my spare. Changing the pulley on board would be difficult.

Good list. Thank you David. How often do you tackle
each of those items in the list? Also, any winterizing routine? We
will be using our boat through the winter too so I am still trying to
ecide
what to do about things like the water system.

 Thanks,

 Kerry

   Kerry,

I also have an aft cabin '42, but its an '84, listings call them
"DCMY", and the orginal documents state she is an SE II. Mine
runs the 8.2L Detroit Diesels. My list looks like this:

Replace pencil zincs in the engines and Onan genset.

   Replace coolant in STB engine.

Replace raw water pump on STB engine.

Refurbish raw water pump on Port engine.

Replace coolant hoses on STB engine (circulating pump to right exh.
anifold
and circulating pump to oil cooler).

   Change engine oil and filters.

Change transmission oil and clean/check internal screens.

Re-route pressure house water at water heater (to eliminate some 90*
   turns).

Install a pressure regulator on the house water system.

Replace the shower heads in both heads.

The list seems to grow as I go!

OK guys, as we go into that time of the year where we roll
up our sleeves and dig into the projects we avoided all season, here is
y
   winter "project" list:

Here is my project list so far:

    Rewire the flybridge
    Replace my fresh water tanks
    Rebuild the starters
    Install diesel primer pump
Replace my rear head and all hoses

What about the routine maintenance? I have a 42
Aft Cabin with 671's. Anyone have a copy of their maintenance schedule
they would be willing to share? I want to know everything from engine
maintenance, to bottom paint to zincs, props, etc. I plan on having
this boat for many many years. Our family loves it. I want to
make sure our baby gets taken care of properly. On a side note...what
winter projects do you guys have going on this winter?

   Thanks,

   Kerry
