When I drill into the stringers on my 42' they seem to be hollow fiberglass. Maybe I can't detect the foam. I''m not sure about the wood at the top, but I have aluminum plates sandwiched to the sides at the engine mounts. Of course, my Uni was layed up in 1983 (SE II) and there seems to have been a lot of things being done differently near the end of the Uniflite era.
