having two uniflites and a sailboat as well, but primarely being a sailor it
should be noted that one of the best cruising sailboats, the Valiant 40,
possibly the single model that has taken cruisers around the world more often
than any other boat has the worst ( had ) blister problem of any boat I have
ever seen, I have even seen some with blisters the size of quarters or bigger
above the waterline on the cabin truncks, having worked in boat yards it was
reassuring that the thickness of fiberglass was plentiful even after shaving
off 1/4" off the whole bottom... before re- epoxying the whole thing...
despite all that and 30 years latter they still fetch high prices and still are
found in all corners of the world... great boats and great design by rober
perry n/a

I see you haven't received much of a response to your query. There is
a Coastal Cruiser in the same marina where I keep my 42 SE II (DCMY).
I asked the owner about it and specifically about the under water
exhaust. He said, "ya, the exhaust exits under water and it is
great. It makes the boat run quiet.." His has two "small Volvo
diesels. I asked there was anything unusual about the Coastal
Cruiser, and he said "blisters!" Well you already know about the
blisters. He also said he knew someone that takes on from San
Francisco to Alaska yearly. They like the sturdy design and the good
freeboard at the bow. I'm afraid that isn't much help. I hope you
get a response from someone in the know.
