When I had our boat in the yard for shaft alignment and prop repair (oops) the mechanic showed me the rudders had some play in them. We took a look at the ruuder posts and saw there was only one fitting used by the factory, the stuffing tube. I had the yard (Delta Marine) install a bearing on the upper shaft where it passed through a horizontal structural piece.
I have to say that yard period was some of the best money I spent. With trued shafts, balanced props and secure rudder posts I could positively feel an improvement in performance. My wife and I have become perfectionists in synchronizing the engines by ear, especially at high rpm. So much so in fact that on a recent sea-trial we could tell th automatic sychronizers were slightly out and needed to be tweaked. Sailboaters find pleasure is fine tuning their sails, heel and helm to maximum speed. I love doing the same on a calm sea in our Uniflite. Trim, synchronining, vacuum, fuel, sound all measured against 10ths of SOG - aaah! Add a following current and I'm in heaven. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "UnifliteWorld" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
