Well It took me a while to find this old thread/discussion, but I'm here to tell what I found when I worked on the turbocharger. If you remember the discussion, my starboard engine was pushing engine oil (unburnt) in to my exhaust. I found that the turbocharger seals and bearings were trashed. The bearings were so bad that the compressor blades were hitting the housing. The company that rebuilds the turbocharger said that they was not able to purchase what they called a cartridge -- the center housing with the shaft and bearings. Someone in the US had two and my man talked the fellow into selling him one... which was used for the customer just ahead of me. Eventually my turbocharger was rebuilt from parts that were found around the country. It cost me a lot! It is back on the engine and is working fine. The same turbo had the bearings replaced just 200 hours previous to this problem. The question is, why did it fail again? On the shops recommendation, I had the engine oil analyzed. The results were normal -- not diesel fuel found in the oil. The sampling is easy and the test is inexpensive so I will do it again after 30 hours. Oh, and there is no more oil sheen on the water behind my boat.
