Thanks for the benefit of your experience. I'll put it on my list.  I've quit 
for now.  It's time to consider my next move.  "Sawing" with wire... hmmm.

I also have a 1980 Uni at Riverpoint Marina. I found that wire can be used to 
"saw"the mastic between the frame and bulkhead. you might give it a try.
