Doug, I'm not going to attempt your main question, but the XFER, when switched on, will combine both banks and they will be powered by the switch used on the other panel, whether it is Shore Power (SP) or Generator (Gen). Note that when using that setting your entire boat's AC will be subject to the limit of the circuit breaker for that setting. This is particularly important when using SP.
