Bob,
We're thinking of using dry ice because I don't have an inverter. It just didn't seem cost effective to install an inverter just to run the refrigerator. I do have a 17Kw generator and plan on running it AM and PM. If we stay out of the fridge between PM and AM run of the generator, I would think things would keep cold for 10 hrs, but the wife is worried about it. Dry ice will only last for a couple of days. Do have a generator and an inverter big enough to power the frig? If so, run the frig on inverter power until 10 PM and then shut it OFF for 8 hours. Everything will stay cold and your ice won't even begin to melt. Just make sure you don't open the refrigerator door after 9 PM. If you bring the house batteries up to at least 85% by 9 PM, run on the inverter for an hour and then shut the inverter off and the frig off, you will have 75% or more in the morning. We're going on an extended cruise and may anchor out occasionally or tie up to a canal wall without power.
