It works for me in trusty and I haven't seen any other complaints about
this issue.

The mute, volume, and Sound Settings do not work

Bug description:
Frequently the sound indicator does not work; I click on the entries
but they have no effect. Sometimes the settings take effect after a
long, random delay. Nevertheless, I am able to change the sound
settings without any problem when I go through System Settings.
I'm using 12.04 64-bit.
