Just out of curiousity -- other than the brief mention in the Inquirer article ("It also plans a $48 million expansion of the veterinary school, which will require city approval to close part of Baltimore Avenue, where it intersects Woodland             and University Avenues. - http://inq.philly.com/content/inquirer/2002/01/28/front_page/penn28.htm), has anyone found, or looked for, and confirmation that this is Penn's plan?

While the photo of the proposed building site in the Winter 2001 Bellwether is pretty vague, articles in earlier issues seem to put the building at 39th and Spruce, connected to the Rosenthal Building - http://www.vet.upenn.edu/comm/publications/bellwether/47/trb-grant.html.  In fact, the photo of what looks like an architects model seems to show the "Old Quandrangle" building intact.

While Penn certainly has a track record of co-opting public space, I'd want bit more confirmation than a vague mention in the Inquirer before I start screaming!

Subject: Veterinary School Expansion

In yesterday’s Philadelphia Inquirer there was an article that was essentially talking about financial problems that our local colleges and universities were having.  In that article, it was mentioned a planned $48 million expansion of Penn’s veterinary school that would require city approval to close part of Baltimore Avenue where it intersects with Woodland and University Avenue.

I pull my head out of the sand every once in a while, but I had not heard anything about this.  I was wondering whether anyone knew anything about this.
