Melani,

Do you have a web-based reference to the federal guidelines, so I can
look at what they say about paint colors? I understand that I can go
down to the Historic Commission and buy a printed copy but my preference
if its possible would be to not make a special trip.

A few years ago when the PHC people came to PVCA to talk, they were
pretty equivocal about paint colors, at least in the case of masonry and
stucco. As I recall the said they could keep people from painting
unpainted stucco, and they limited new painting of already painted
stucco to several colors.

When they again visited PVCA a week or so ago, I believe they said they
do not limit paint color of wood trim at all.

I think the substance of Al Krigman's post is to raise the question: Can
the Historic Commission decide at some point that they would like to
limit colors? Do they have that authority? And this is a valid
question regardless of whether they in fact limit colors at this point,
because the designation being considered is a long-term kind of thing.
