I was told last night that the University City Historical Society is paying the costs for the Spruce Hill historic designation nomination.
Since several references had been made to an "anonymous donor" I doubted this explanation, and I asked Kathy Dowdell (UCHS board member and former President) to confirm it. Her response was: "This is correct - there is no anonymous donor. I am not on any of the email lists, but heard at a meeting last night about the discussion of an anonymous donor." " The UCHS paid an initial retainer to our consultant, George Thomas, out of our own account. (We had some money on hand from our collection sale two years ago). We then agreed to raise money jointly with members from the Spruce Hill civic association for the rest of George's fee. We have received several checks and pledges from individuals, and one pledge from the Drumcliff Foundation. We still have a fair amount of money to raise, and are planning a broader solicitation of our members, as well as seeking out other potential grant sources." I'm sending this in the hopes that it will clarify the way the nomination is being funded. Ben Dugan ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
