Dear Andy and neighbors,

This is a debate our SHCA Ad Hoc committee pursued.
I don't think our choice, to attempt to work within SHCA, precludes
further developement of SHNA nor of volunteerism beyond the missions of
either organization.

I am unable to commit to regimented monthly meetings but I can volunteer
an equivalent amount time to do Ad Hoc work to help create an
organization that DOES represent the neighborhood.
I believe the end result will be stronger and better than a handful of
splinter organizations.
Since SHCA purports to represent the neighborhood, and has several
excellent directors and an in-place structure, it seemed logical to make
SHCA work for the neighborhood and not just for current Agendas which
feels alarmingly "institutional" and non-inclusive.

We are an established neighborhood.
We can agree to disagree, if we act honestly, openly and in good faith.
But misdirection, noninclusion and disingenuous seem to be unacceptably
common style choices in posts coming from some SHCA directors.

I hope that having folks with different backgrounds and ideas sit on the
same board will create a system of checks and balances. and profoundly
enrich the process of growth in this neighborhood.
It is an achievable goal.
It occurs whether our Ad Hoc committee wins (when appointments are
needed, or in next years election), or if our efforts generate greater
thoughtfulness on the part of the directors who were elected.

When we looked at the list that SHCA proposed we saw a group of
volunteers who were for the most part competent, hard working and
generating good ideas
I view a few of the directors as under-performers and a couple that I
think of as either truly twisted or lame thinkers.
I also view the entity known as the SHCA Directors as "closed" (which
might explain the 62 straight slate selections).
It seemed logical to begin the change with a FEW changes to the roster.
Life shows that change is a constant.
I will continue to work for positive change.

Separately, as a member of SHNA, I believe it remains committed to
preserving the rights of property owners in UC, and as the HD debate
continues, I expect SHNA to provide resources which will help property
owners recognize the dangerous combination of huge police powers
harnessed to ambiguous regulations is a dangerous thing to impose on a
community. It is no coincidence that an HD is defined by its
"restrictions" and "regulations".

All the best!
Liz
