DCCC To Wilson: Come Clean & Tell the Voters What You Know About the GOP’s
Today’s Washington Post revealed that the head of the New Mexico State Republican Party was instructed by an unnamed national Republican to offer at least $100,000 to the Green Party if they filed candidates in New Mexico’s highly competitive 1st and 2nd congressional districts.
In previous cycles, the presence of Green Party candidates on the ballot benefited Republican candidates in New Mexico and Republicans are seeking to manipulate Green Party voters again in an effort to boost their endangered candidates this fall.

"We now have evidence that the Republican Party attempted to manipulate New Mexico voters in order to make gains at the ballot box. The two key questions are: will GOP Rep. Heather Wilson admit what she knows about this insidious deal and have Republicans made deals with the Green Party in the past?" said Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) spokeswoman Kim Rubey. "These highly questionable tactics speak volumes about the New Mexico Republican Party. Voters can only wonder what else they are willing to do to win elections."
From today’s Washington Post:
"The chairman of the Republican Party of New Mexico said yesterday he was approached by a GOP figure who asked him to offer the state Green Party at least $100,000 to run candidates in two contested congressional districts in an effort to divide the Democratic vote.
"’I was asked to inform the Green Party’ that if the party filed candidates in New Mexico's 1st and 2nd congressional districts, it would get paid in ‘the six-figure range,’ said John Dendahl.
"Dendahl refused to identify the person who made the offer except to say it was a man based in Washington with apparent ties to the Republican Party." [Washington Post, 7/12/02]
