Hello everyone.
We need immediate help in securing a University
City District
host for one person for one week starting either
Wednesday
July 31 or the next day. Alternatively, if you
or someone you
know has a window air-conditioner unit which can
be lent for this
week, the lodging need could be met at one of our
host homes
which is already part of our hospitality network.
The situation is
as follows:
The family in need concerns B.R., a 17
year-old
Jamaican girl who 2 years ago was in an
auto
acccident wherein she lost all of her toes
and fingers
but one. For four months she was
hospitalized in
Cuba, during which time the family
incurred $20,000
in out-of-pocket expenses. Now, beginning
next week,
she will be coming up to Philadelphia to
receive
treatment at the Shriners Hospital on N.
Broad Street.
B.R. requires wheelchair accessible
lodging. We
therefore have arranged for her and her 53
year-old
father S.R. to stay at a HOSTS for
HOSPITALS home
at 48th and Springfield which has both
bedroom and
bath on the first floor. However, we were
notified
yesterday morning that for the first week
the girl's
mother N.B. will need lodging as well, and
as it
happens the home which has been arranged
for
the family can only lodge two guests.
We therefore need a second host home to
lodge
either the mother or father for one week
starting
about July 31st. Ideally this host home
would be
as close as possible to the first host
home at 48th
and Springfield. Alternatively, if a
window air-
conditioner unit were to be made
available, we
could then place this unit in one of our
other UCD
host homes and thus meet the guest
family's
lodging needs.
Please pass this appeal on to others right away.
Anyone
possibly able to help should contact me ASAP.
Thank you
for your time and hopefully together we can make
it happen
for B.R. and her family.
