Dear Friends and Supporters,
There's quite a lot to choose from this weekend. You can go for a ride or clean up the
shop. Listed in decreasing order of what we need you for:(we have a lot of volunteers
for the last event)
1 Bike Ride with Philadelphia Trips for Kids!
David Halberstroh of Trips for Kids has invited us to ride with TFK this Saturday.
Ride leaves from Valley Green between 9:00 and 9:30. TFK is providing mountain bikes
for some NBW youth. We need a couple of people with cars for rides to and from NBW's
39th & Locust Walk location at 8:30 AM. Not sure when we will be returning - if
interested call or e-mail - I will have more information soon.
Of course, if you would like to ride to Valley Green from NBW let us know. Some
people will probably be doing that.
This will be a fun ride and an opportunity for some West Philly youngsters to do some
trail riding.
2 Meet at NBW's Haddington Location and join volunteers from West Chester
University painting and preparing the place for the GRAND OPENING that will take place
next week (9/28) NBW instructor Kitty Heite will be meeting people and assigning
tasks from 11:00AM to 4:30PM which is the end of the event. This will be dirty work
and you may need to work in close quarters if enough people show up! We are expecting
some of our students to be there, so this will be a good time if you enjoy working
with youth.
The Haddington shop is on the south east corner of 60th and Vine Streets - 5958 Vine
Street. The phone there is (215) 476-4436
3 Shape up Our Shop day. Delta Sigma Phi community service fraternity from Penn
will be helping us clean up and organize at the St Mary's location. There may be up
to 50 volunteers. What we really need is people who have been here before to help out
with orienting these people to the tasks that we will have set up. We will have a
list of things that need doing and instructions, but with that many people it would be
nice to have some team leaders who know their way around the shop a little. This
event will be from 11:00AM-1:00PM and as usual will be fairly hard work, some of which
will be filthy. Show up at 9:30 if you want to fix bikes with some young people.
I hope you can make it to one of these events. Please pass this e-mail on to anyone
you think might be interested, and call or e-mail with any questions or comments.
Many thanks,
Andy
