NASA is inaugurating a new free e-mail service, sending daily links to what I've got to say are spectacular satellite images of things like hurricanes, forest fires, volcanos, and so forth. These would be something really worthwhile and interesting for kids to be getting on a daily basis.

To see what I mean, take a look at Tuesday's picture of Hurricane Lilli. It's at

Welcome to the new NASA Earth Observatory Natural Hazard image service. We have added
your e-mail address to our database to provide you with same-day notices when we post
new images of significant Earth events all over the world. These notices will be sent
to you every business day. Today's sample report is provided below.

Updated almost every day, NASA's Earth Observatory provides excellent quality
satellite images, animations and data visualizations of wildfires, volcanoes, severe
storms, floods, and large-scale dust and smoke events. Visit the site at
<http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/NaturalHazards/> to see today's images, or skim
through our archives to review our entire collection. Images are available at up to
the satellite sensors' highest spatial resolution -- suitable for posters, print, or
TV publication. You are free to use or publish these images. (We do ask that you
provide credit as cited on the page for any images you use.)

This service is provided *free of charge.* We hope you find it useful. If this e-mail
is coming to you in error or you wish to unsubscribe, then please send a message to
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. If you would like these notices to be
sent to someone else in your organization, please have them send a message to
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> to subscribe.

Please note that we have just announced this list, and so the daily mailings will not
begin immediately. There will be another Welcome message next week, to allow our
subscribers to be sure that any filters they need are configured properly, and the
following week (the week of 14 October) the daily mailings will begin. If there is no
update in the database, then there will be no mailing generated. Contact information,
if you have questions or concerns, is at the bottom of the email, or you my contact me
([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Sincerely,

David Herring, chief editor
NASA's Earth Observatory
