Folks: Forgive the intrusion, but someone posted a request for information
about "old remedies" (from my grandfather's time) mentioned in my email and
I cannot recall the person or the message so I am answering it by sending
this message to everyone. My point was that because of the attention to
ghetto merchandising, there are usually over-the-counter remedies like black
salve, oil of wintergreen, liniments, soaps, coal-tar shampoos and the like
that no one sees anymore anywhere. They seem to go hand-in-hand with
bleaching creams and old-fashioned hair straightening products. Even Lydia
Pinkham powder or pills and Doan's pills pop up on the shelves. How do the
stores get this stuff? Well, one way would be to buy job-lots of
discontinued products or off-brands. It's super cheap and appears to be
responsive to the neighborhood the store purports to serve at the same time.

Dave: what we don't need are Eckerd Drug Stores. They are over-priced and
geared to low-end merchandizing. A typical ghetto enterprise, if you will.
On the positive side, you may even find some old remedies that may be
familiar from your grandparents' time.
