It's been about six years or so ago now, that the city wanted to reconfigure the 38th St./Baltimore intersection. There used to be 3 big, gorgeous oak trees in that traffic island. The city cut one, but citizens got together and saved the other two by talking the city out of changing the streets.
During the past couple of weeks workers have been taking core soil samples on that traffic island and nearby island parking lot. This is to see if the soil can support buildings on theses sites. Penn has indicated in publications that they want to expand the nearby vet school. I don't know what will happen to the roads when they do so. But, I bet that the big healthy oaks and all the smaller trees (which Penn planted just a few years ago) will be demolished. Across 38th, are some more unusually healthy oaks and white pines. They are slated to be killed to make way for the Life Science building. ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month!
