****BRAND NEW PAA SUMMER ART WORKSHOPS********
The Philadelphia Art Alliance is proud to announce a new program
�Julie�s July Art Jam�.
Julie Cardillo has received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania
and served on the faculty at Upenn, Drexel and Montgomery County
Community College.  She will be instructing exciting new workshops for
the month of July at the Philadelphia Art Alliance.

Workshops will be run per week, MTWTH during the month of July.

Each week will be a different motif.  From 9-11am they will be
structured for ages 10-12.  From 12:00 to 2:00 will be a FREE OPEN
STUDIOS with a project related to the weekly topic.  She will be there
to guide and support interested students while answering art related
questions.  During 3:00-5:00pm the workshop will be geared towards an
older art audience ages will be 13 and up. Bring the whole family!

July 7th-10th = THE ENVIRONMENT

My Green Garden       9:00-11:00am
Can nature and the city of Philadelphia exist peacefully together? It
sure can, and it�s up to you to design it!  We will take short field
trips and paint pictures of local areas where there is plenty of green
in city.  Each day we will create and bring home a new painting inspired
by historical movements such as the Renaissance, Impressionists,
Fauvists and Magic Realists.
Cost=$120 +$15 materials fee

Open Studio  11:00am-1:00pm

>From Pastoral Sites to Cityscapes   3:00-5:00pm
We will trace different modes of landscape painting throughout history,
emphasizing the relationship between man and nature.  We will cover
basic painting techniques and create works inspired by the great
masters.  Each day we will create a new project.  We will also take
local field trips.
Cost=$120+$15 materials fee

July 14th-17th = PEOPLE

Crazy Characters  9:00-11:00am
What can we tell about a person from their portrait?  How do we arrive
at these conclusions?  Portraits give us insight into people�s
character.  As a group we will analyze famous portraits from such
artists as Van Gogh and Alice Neel.  We will create our own portraits
and learn basic proportions and drawing skills.   Each day we will begin
and take home new project, including creating our own characters and
caricatures!
Cost=$120+$15 materials fee

Open Studio  11:00-1:00pm

Narrative and the Art of Portraiture  3:00-5:00pm
The art of portraiture poses many questions.  As a group we will
reference and discuss artists such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Manet and
contemporary artists such as Alice Neel and Susanna Coffey.  We will
touch upon ideas such as perceived image and projected image.  We will
create our own portraits and learn basic proportions, drawing and
painting skills. Each day we will take home a new project! The workshop
will culminate in a project that asks you to create a portrait with no
human image.
Cost=$120+$15 materials fee

July 21st-24th = LANGUAGE

Playful Poets  9:00-11:00am
We will learn about different poets, beginning with William Blake. As a
group we will play with sounds, rhythm and rhyme.  We will create our
own poetry and illustrations to accompany them. Each day we will take
home a new project.
Cost=$120+$15 materials fee

Open Studios   11:00-1:00pm

Text and Image    3:00-5:00pm
We will discuss elements of visual and written language.  Logograms,
Ideograms and Phonograms will be covered. Students will work with
different mediums that reflect the concepts we discuss.  Each day we
will take home a new project. The workshop will culminate in a project
that asks you to transform text into images.
Cost=$120+$15 materials fee



July 28th-31st  = CULTURE

We�re in the World   9:00-11:00am
Creativity plays an important role in all cultures.
In our minds, we will travel to places such as Africa, to create masks,
Ancient Egypt, to decipher hieroglyphs and invent our own symbolic
language, and Australia, where the Aborigines will help us express our
dreams.
Cost=$100+$35 materials fee

Open Studios    11:00-1:00pm

The Art of Indigenous People      3:00-5:00pm
Artistic expression comes is many forms and for many purposes.  Each day
we will create and new project. We will discuss the history of African
mask making and religion, while creating our own masks.  In addition we
will explore the Greeks, decorative arts and mosaic.
Cost-$100+$35 material fee
