Apparently this is media week for HOSTS for HOSPITALS,
for I just received an email from Channel 6 ABC News that the
station is tentatively planning to broadcast a segment on HfH
(shot in May) at 5 P.M. this coming Monday, July 21.
The segment concerns Jelena M., an extraordinary 24 year-old
woman from Serbia who is inflicted with an awful disease
whereby over time the soft tissue in her body hardens into a
second skeleton. Jelena was in Philadelphia to have surrey
performed on her jaw so that she would retain flexibility in regard
to eating. As she is now restricted to a wheelchair, it was
arranged for her that she and her mother would lodge with
a Center City HfH host family whose home is located in
a condominium building serviced by at elevator.
All who come in contact with Jelena and her mother are
struck by the unbelievable grace and dignity which they
exhibit in the face of Jalena's illness. After spending a
little time with them, you find its quite a bit easier to
put into perspective that which is most important in your
own life. I therefore hope that you''ll have the chance to
watch (or videotape) the program Monday.
