Hi. *waves* Decent citizen on the wrong end of that law right here. I won't give you the whole sordid story, just the relevant bits: On June first, my partner and i and a close friend of ours moved into a single family home, fully intending to start a cooperative group house. We discussed this with the landlord. The lease specifically said we were allowed to have up to six people and four cats living in that house. After less than a month, the landlord posted an illegal eviction notice on our door. He had decided -- without telling us -- that we couldn't have cats anymore. When it became clear that he had *no* grounds for eviction, the landlord "remembered" the three unrelated persons law. We were given the choice of capitulating and breaking the lease, or continuing to stay in a house that was much too big for three people to occupy -- let alone afford to heat come winter -- comfortably. No, he didn't break up a (i don't think "sin" is appropriate here, so i'll say "civil disobediance" instead) house of civil disobediance. He did, however, use the law to go back on his word *and contract* to prevent one from forming. Furthermore, it wasn't because we're the sort of nusiance household described here. The single-family household next door generates as much trash in a week as we do in a month. Maybe we are a five-bike household, but we don't take up any street parking. We're friendly to other community members. We scythe our lawn regularly, pick up litter, and don't do any open burning. And the one party we had in that house was at least quiet, if not actually over, by a reasonable hour. The guy decided to enforce the law because he didn't like cats. Yeah, the law's a potentially useful weapon. So are semi-automatic rifles. As soon as my housing situation settles down, i'll be doing some research into it. Anyone else interested?
