We've been "hacked" twice at 47th and Baltimore. Once, before the first episode aired, they shot some footage outside the old Incarnation Lutheran Church (now Greater Enon Baptist). We did receive a notice, rolled up and stuck in the fence on the side of out house facing 47th St. (Like I check there for mail - but I know I didn't see it there the night before because I do pick up trash and paper) They shut down 47th St a couple of nights, and the "coolness" of having a TV show filmed outside our house sort of over weighed the inconvenience. The second time was earlier this year. No notice except for no parking signs on the trees the day before. We had trailers and noise until 2am, & no way to escape the interruption. The "coolness" factor wears thinner.

We don't watch Hack consistently. Is it my imagination, or is most of the filming they do in UC all at night? I don't remember too many daylight scenes shot out this way in the episodes I've watched.

This past summer, one Saturday am I awoke to people stringing clothesline across 47th St, closing it off. We'd had no advance notice that the street was being closed off. The hair salon across the street held a block party. The 18th PD had no record of a permit being issued, but said that it could still be legit. A patrol car showed up, and gave them yellow Police tape to make a more visible blockage across 47th St. They didn't really start doing anything until 7pm. We came home at 9pm, and they were just getting started. At 10:45 the drumming was getting tiresome. I called to ask how late permits for block parties were in effect. The response was that it varies. At 11:30pm, the drumming had intensified, so I called 911 and complained. By 12:30am, it was still going strong, and, feeling very angry and imposed upon, I went over and complained to one of the drummers. He apologized, and they stopped immediately. If I had only communicated with them earlier, maybe I would have gotten a decent night's sleep. But then, had we known in advance they were planning a night-long block party, we would have gone away for the weekend.

Clear, effective advance communication of disruptions to resident's daily schedules should be mandatory except for unavoidable emergencies like fires. It's called a neighborhood 'cause the folks who live here are our neighbors. "Love your neighbor as yourself" . If Hack wants to be of this neighborhood, they might be more neighborly about their intentions effects on our lives.

It may be that darn head injury but I seem to be immune to the Hack issue.

In November, I received a timely notice when the Hack production company was looking for a West Philly home for a December filming. I recall a phone number on that notice. I also received other notices at least two weeks prior to the most recent filmings as well.

I recall the day when all the trucks were set up in the 45th & Larwood vicinity. A cop sat outside my home most of the day (Hello officer!). Again, I could blame that partial lobotomy, but I thought it was kind of cool that they were filming in the neighborhood.

But as long as we are complaining about preventing contractor access to one's home, I propose: did the Philadelphia Water Department ask me if they could work on my street for over two months, replacing the water main? Did they ask me if I had scheduled any contractor work (note: the work was replacing the sidewalk. The truck needed to be right in front). Indeed, did they ask me if I had a deadline, due to an RDA loan? Did they ask me if they could start jackhammering at 7 a.m., especially on the day I was ill? Did they ask me if two weeks notice was sufficient?

But back to non-utility company concerns.

I recall living in Art Museum when they were filming The Sixth Sense. Yes, there were complaints. But I think many of the residents were enthusiastic. Well, that one had Bruce Willis, and Hack just has...um...whatever that guys name is.

I just hope they are getting their coffee at the Green Line.
