I rate that last posting at a 10 for meanness!
I can't believe someone is picking on the Philly car share program!
Yes, they did leaflet this weekend. I saw the $30 discount on the door knob hanger and signed up!
Maybe if more people used Philly Car Share, an environmentally friendly program, their would be fewer cars on the street and then less pollution!
No, I wouldn't call it mean, just reality. It is exactly what Tony and Brian were talking about...
And I might add, it is exactly the same with ISP SPAM filters -- your mail is being censored by someone before you ever see it... you have no idea what you are NOT getting.
... What is currently called the "unintended consequence."
Censorship is still censorship, whether intentional or unintentional.
... but then some people believe that requiring you to prove you are not carrying "contraband" (proscribed items) for no reason at all other than they think you might is perfectly acceptable behavior for the Law.
BTW... I don't know if Door-knobbing (which is technically a different thing than normal circulars) is covered by the City's prohibition or not. The technique and technology was developed by the Advertising community to address both the Postal regulations and the Litter problem. The same question applies to telephone book delivery ... both white and yellow pages!
The most interesting aspect of all these schemes is the way in which they are accomplished. It's an interesting aspect of advertising life which people not involved in "circulation" don't see.
Historically, these were delivered by the "homeless." (In the old days we called them "wineos.") They usually got paid by the piece, which is why there are frequently many more copies on your porch than people living there. They were easily recruited because the work was "easy" and the pay "good" (better than nothing), and they usually got picked-up on the spot and taken to wherever they were working and then brought back at the end of the day.
