Statements made recently regarding University City Districts (UCD)
involvement in the shutdown of Daniel Kings Amish Barbecue Stand at
49th
and Baltimore Avenue are simply untrue. The truth is that UCD was
instrumental in bringing Farm to City and Mr. King to 49th and
Baltimore. In
fact, UCD actively promoted the market and Mr. King, and continues to
support Mr. King in his successful effort to find a permanent home, five
days per week in the Firehouse Farmers Market at 50th and Baltimore.
Furthermore, it should be noted that UCD did not call the Health
Department
regarding the barbecue stand. We have since learned that the Health
Department was in fact on the Avenue for scheduled inspections at other
area
businesses.
To address the overall issue of code compliance, UCD supports the City in fair code enforcement for the health and safety of the community. UCD also supports residents desires for a safe and clean environment where they live, work and shop and believes any applications of code enforcement have to be done in a uniform, unbiased, and untargeted way.
