It seems to me that Ms. Blackwell is more interested in Council bureaucracy and power than public input (foreshadowing the future of HD under Council's control?). Kenney was asking for public hearings on the entire issue of historic preservation and the workings of the current Historical Commission. Seems like a reasonable request, no? What the Councilwoman seems more interested in is controlling the discussion, setting the agenda and dictating as much as possible, the outcome of her bill.
If anti- Historic Designation/Historical Commission folks want open discussion of the issues and genuine exploration of ways to make the process more democratic, holding hearings on a single bill is not the answer.
I'll say it again, this bill is not about "the people's needs". It's about millions of dollars of development money, who's going to reap the profits and who's going to control who gets them.
