dude. I already have. :-)

(and dude? this listserv is where you've been posting announcements about these meetings, where you've been involved in dialog. true, this listserv has no facilitators or moderators or steering committees, but it's on a website and it's open to anyone who wants to participate. just like the dp online, where anyone who wants to can read all about these meetings and engage in dialog with other readers about them. but hey thanks for telling us which forums "qualify"!)

Well, this is a silly comment. Sharrieff used this list as a means of advertising the 40th street forums. That's perfectly fine: this list reaches a number of people, many of whom may be interested in participating. It qualifies as an announcement forum, and some discussion happens here.

However, this list is NOT a representative selection of the neighborhood, nor is it worthwhile as a forum for the 40th street corridor. Tell me, Ray: how many people who own businesses on 40th street participate in this list? I suspect that I could count them on the fingers of one hand, at the outside. I also know of many community leaders and activists who do _not_ participate on these lists. If Sharrieff, or anyone else, had seriously proposed using this list as _the_ means of discussing the future of 40th street, I suspect we'd hear a lot about how selective the list is, how exclusive it is, and how badly the "process" is skewed. (Matter of fact, Ray, I suspect that these are comments _you'd_ make, given that vague complaints about "process" are your stock-in-trade.)

Let me explain what is so _wrong_ with your comment. Imagine if Sharrieff had announced the meetings by handing out flyers on a street corner. Such flyers have "no facilitators or moderators," and they're "open to anyone who wants to participate." Would you seriously advocate conducting a forum through an exchange of hand-delivered flyers?

brian, I think maybe you misunderstand. here is what sharrieff wrote:

"The dialogue is happening on the 40th Street web-site
and at the forums, not on this listserv which does
  not qualify as 'community involvement'."

since sharrieff was saying that dialogue is happening at the 40th st. website, I reminded him that it also happens at other online forums, including this one.

see? let's everybody calm down ok?

off to lunch--
